LTO Summons SUV Owner and Driver for Repeated Illegal Use of EDSA Busway
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) issued a show cause order to confront the owner and driver of a Mitsubishi Montero SUV for illegally entering the EDSA Busway 307 times. The fines for the violations could amount to a significant sum, with the vehicle registered to a resident of Quezon City.
Motorists can face fines of up to P30,000 for repeated illegal use of the EDSA Busway. However, for the driver and possibly the owner of an SUV caught entering the bus lane 307 times, the fines may seem insignificant.
The SUV in question, a Mitsubishi Montero, is registered to a resident of a Quezon City subdivision. The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has taken action by issuing a show cause order on June 23 to address the blatant disregard for traffic laws.
LTO Assistant Secretary Vigor D. Mendoza II stated that the show cause order was in response to a request from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to identify and penalize the driver of the SUV for repeated violations since August 12, 2022.
Chairman Artes of MMDA highlighted the need to sanction these violations to prevent further disregard for the EDSA Busway rules. The fines for illegal use range from P5,000 for the first offense to P30,000 for the fourth offense.
The investigation also revealed that the Mitsubishi Montero's registration had expired, leading to additional penalties under the Compulsory Registration of Motor Vehicles Act.
The show cause order requires the registered owner and driver to provide explanations for their actions. Failure to comply may result in further penalties.
