Bureau of Immigration Commits to Digital Transformation to Combat Fraudulent Documents
The Bureau of Immigration is dedicated to digitizing its systems to tackle the use of fake immigration papers. Deputy Spokesperson Melvin Mabulac highlighted the need for this move to prevent foreigners from falsifying paper-based documents. The recent interception of two Chinese nationals with fraudulent exit clearances has reinforced the BI's determination to pursue digitization.
The Bureau of Immigration (BI) is committed to pursuing its digitization program to combat fraudulent immigration documents. BI Deputy Spokesperson Melvin Mabulac expressed concern over the use of fake documents by passengers at international ports. He emphasized the need to digitize all systems to prevent such incidents.
Following the interception of two Chinese nationals on June 20, who were former Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) employees, BI remains dedicated to digitization. The individuals were caught using emigration exit clearances (ECCs) issued to others, a requirement for foreign nationals leaving the Philippines permanently.
BI is investigating the possibility of a criminal syndicate involvement in obtaining the ECCs for the arrested Chinese nationals.
