Donald Trump Threatens Additional 10% Tariffs for Countries Aligning with BRICS Policies

U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that countries aligning with the 'Anti-American policies' of BRICS will face an additional 10% tariff. Trump made this statement on Truth Social, stating that there will be no exceptions to this policy.

Trump did not provide further details on what he meant by 'Anti-American policies' in his post. He also mentioned that the U.S. will start sending out 'letters' on tariffs and deals to various countries from Monday.

The original BRICS group consisted of Brazil, Russia, India, and China, with South Africa joining later. Last year, the group expanded to include Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. The recent 17th BRICS Summit saw leaders criticizing Trump's import tariffs.

In April, Trump threatened punitive duties on allies and rivals but later offered a reprieve. He has set a deadline of August 1 for reaching 'deals' with partners or facing unilateral levies. Despite the criticism of import tariffs, the summit declaration did not directly name the United States or its president.
