South Korea floods and landslides claim at least 14 lives

At least 14 people have died in floods and landslides caused by days of torrential rain in South Korea, according to the country's disaster management office. Emergency rescue efforts are ongoing, with 12 people reported missing. Footage showed people wading through mud in the landslide-hit town of Gapyeong and an entire village covered with earth and debris in the central Chungcheong region.

Six people were killed and seven are missing in Sancheong, with thousands of roads and buildings damaged by floodwaters. Nearly 10,000 people have evacuated their homes, and over 41,000 households lost power. President Lee Jae-myung declared the worst-hit areas as special disaster zones and a multi-agency recovery effort is underway. The rain has subsided in some areas, but heavy rain is still expected in Seoul and northern regions. A landslide in Gapyeong County killed two people, and an intense heatwave is forecasted after the rain ends.
