Manchester United opened their preseason campaign with a goalless draw against Leeds United in Stockholm. The match was delayed by 10 minutes due to heavy traffic around the stadium but any fans expecting to see goals were left with very little to cheer about. In a match of minimal action at both ends, one of the largest cheers at the Strawberry Arena came when Leeds minority owner Will Ferrell was shown on the big screen.
Matheus Cunha made his Manchester United debut and the Brazilian struggled to get heavily involved, failing to have a shot, before being replaced by Mason Mount at half-time. Mount was one of 11 changes at the interval made by Ruben Amorim, as he looked to ensure everyone got the opportunity to play in the opening game of preseason. Leeds themselves made eight changes at the break, most notably bringing on debutant Sean Longstaff, who only joined the club on Friday from Newcastle United.
United will now travel to the U.S., where they will face West Ham at the MetLife Stadium, New Jersey on July 26, before facing Bournemouth in Chicago on July 30 and Everton in Atlanta on Aug. 3. They begin their Premier League campaign at Old Trafford, where they will welcome Arsenal. Leeds host Villarreal at Elland Road on Aug.2, before travelling to Dublin to play Milan on Aug.9 ahead of their season opener against Everton.
