Landowner Causes Disruption During Tree Trimming Near High-Voltage Lines

A landowner in Co Kildare, Ireland, allegedly overturned an ESB machine while workers were trimming trees near high-voltage power lines on his land. The landowner, Tom O’Shea, has agreed in the High Court to allow immediate urgent safety works to proceed.

O’Shea reportedly threatened ESB workers and then used his digger to tip over a tree-cutting tractor with its operator inside. He refused ESB access to the power lines due to an unresolved dispute with the company.

The ESB argued that the trees were on O’Shea’s land and needed urgent trimming to prevent fire and blackouts. The court ordered negotiations between O’Shea and the ESB to resolve the issue within three weeks.

Previous incidents of interference by O’Shea in 2009 were also mentioned in court. The matter has been adjourned to the last week of July for further proceedings.
