Father of Alleged Gang Boss Profits from Housing Ukrainian Refugees

John Gill sr, the father of alleged gangland figure Jonathan Gill, established a company that received payments to house Ukrainian refugees. Although he transferred his shares in Astervale Ltd to another director, he still remains a director. The company made a profit of €246,000 in 2023 and owns a property valued at €420,000. Astervale was paid €414,505 from 2022 to April 2024 according to government figures. Jonathan Gill claims to be a legitimate businessman.

In a separate case, Ben O’Brien resigned from Secure Accommodation, a firm with emergency accommodation contracts, due to links to the Drogheda gang feud. O’Brien was named in a Criminal Assets Bureau case against gang bosses Owen and Brendan Maguire. Jonathan Gill and Paschal Kelly were mentioned in Cab evidence involving major criminal activities. Kelly is serving an 18-year sentence for robbery and kidnapping.

Gill runs a mediation service and has no serious criminal convictions. However, Cab described him as a close criminal associate of Paschal Kelly. Evidence suggests they controlled a crime gang involved in cocaine deals and robberies. Gill was previously targeted by the Criminal Assets Bureau and faced serious criminal allegations.
